Yayi Espenilla-Fua is from STCQC High School Batch ’84. After high school, she proceeded to the University of the Philippines where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Economics. Several years after, the call to teach manifested itself, compelling her to go back to UP where she obtained, this time, a Master’s degree in Early Education.
Yayi has been an early childhood and literacy educator for over 20 years and remains involved in various curriculum consultancies, professional development and research projects for the Department of Education and private institutions. She taught preschool for many years and worked as the Early Childhood Development Specialist of Basa Pilipinas, the flagship reading activity of DepEd and USAID. She was also a Research Associate of the Education Research Program under the University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS), the policy research arm of UP. At present, she lectures at the Literacy Education Area of the UP College of Education where she is also currently working on her PhD. She also works closely with Angat Buhay on their Bayan Ko, Titser Ko Literacy Program.
More importantly, she is a wife and a proud mother to 3 accomplished adults.
